Stone Medicine Facial / Cranial Gua Sha

I am so excited to be able to offer the exclusive Stone Medicine Facial Gua Sha treatment which was developed by Ziggie Bergman. Ziggie has been working within the field of Facial Gua Sha for many years having first trained in Japan in 1992. It is a bespoke treatment where I work intuitively feeling the skin over the face, neck and shoulders for areas of stress and tension. I then use a range of hot and cold stones (Stone Medicine) to work over these areas, helping to release stress and tension. In turn this helps to relax the muscles and brings about a sense of wellbeing.

Ling Shu, one of the earliest existing Chinese medicine texts states 'all illness is the result of separation of Spirit, and that the superior practitioner helps guides the patient to rediscover this connection'.

Facial Gua Sha is a gentle massage, which has been adopted to glide and rub using a tool over the skin. Facial oil is applied to lubricate the skin to aid the tools. Gua Sha does help exfoliate the skin and creates microtrauma where there is congestion.

Benefits

  • lymphatic drainage, decrease puffiness
  • smooth out lines and wrinkles
  • sculpt the jawline
  • Improved circulation
  • help to release tight muscles
  • bruxism
  • headaches
  • sinus congestion
  • and with the use of Stone Medicine theory, this creates a deeper, more profound healing layer to this treatment

Stones can be placed on reflexology points or be used to massage as in Gua Sha. Stones can be used hot or cold throughout the treatment - which is dependent on the client's needs.

Stones Used

Different types of stones can be used throughout the treatment for different reasons:

Hardness or Softness:

  • Gives an indication of how quickly it will impact the body and strengthens or decreases rigidity.

Stones formed during volcanic activity:

  • These have different energetic properties to a stone which developed through a process of erosion.

Weight and Density

  • The weight of a stone helps to anchor energy downwards - this in turn has a calming effect.

Colour and Appearance

  • The fact that colour triggers feelings and arouses the senses is in itself a route to the spirit.

Heat and Light

  • This can impact the effects on the body, for example dark stones like black obsidian will warm quickly, pulling out excess heat, whereas clear quartz stays cooler for longer. However if a stone is heated before use, this will change the molecular structure of the stone causing it to vibrate differently and direct heat deep into the energetic antimony of the body. Light stones reflect light and heat and disperse pathology away from the body.

Red Stone:

  • Conjures up the image of blood and they usually contain iron in its chemical composition, which resonates with haemoglobin in our blood.

Jade:

  • Jade is believed to be a stone of purity and good fortune. It is said to promote longevity, fertility, and wisdom.

Amethyst:

  • Amethyst is believed to be a stone of protection and purification. It is said to help relieve stress, anxiety, and insomnia.

Citrine:

  • Citrine is believed to be a stone of creativity and abundance. It is said to help boost energy levels, motivation, and self-confidence.

Rose Quartz:

  • Rose quartz is believed to be a stone of love and compassion. It is said to help promote emotional healing, forgiveness, and self-love.

Green Jade:

  • Green jade is believed to be a stone of luck and prosperity. It is said to help attract wealth, success, and good fortune.
